It should be no surprise to you that we spend some of the most important and special moments in or near the kitchen. This space is filled with aromas of your favorite recipes and treats, it symbolizes closeness to those we love, and is a room we enter many times a day. Since this room is used often, we would like to give a few helpful tips on how to choose your style when the time comes for giving the room a new look.

Consider Your Overall Preferences

One of the first things we like to ask when sitting down with a client for a kitchen remodel is how they use their kitchen. For baking, cooking, a place to gather with family and friends? Every client has a different need, and we like to meet them with where they are at. Then what is the overall look you want, white, airy style, deep rich tones or a natural beige style? One of the first decisions one can make is white, airy style or a natural, beige style. Once this is decided, it will be easier for one to begin choosing cabinets (painted vs. stained), choosing countertops, and flooring as well. One thing to keep in mind is if there is a part of your kitchen that you plan on keeping the same, (for example beige tile) consider continuing that style throughout the other various aspects of the kitchen.

Consider Space and Lighting

Space and lighting are key when choosing the color of cabinets and backsplash. If the room has no natural light and is small, consider having lighter toned cabinets with a white subway tile backsplash. If your kitchen is open with good lighting, there will be a little more variety for choosing deeper, darker tones.

Consider Resale Value

Life comes with many surprises, so it is never a bad idea to be prepared if you would happen to choose to put your home on the market. Thus, our recommendation would be to consult with us or someone you trust while selecting various aspects of your kitchen so that in the long run, you may be able to add value to your home. Remember the old saying “you get what you pay for” and this couldn’t be truer in the kitchen. Low-quality appliances, cabinets, and flooring begin showing wear quickly and can date the beautiful space you just created.
