As more rain comes and less daylight remains, it is no surprise that the colder months are almost here. Whether you like 90 degrees or 5 feet of snow, our state provides us with outstanding variety throughout each season. As the colder months set in, its a great idea to have a to-do list to keep your days productive when outdoor activities are limited. In this blog post, we would like to provide three indoor projects you can do to give a fresh new look to your home.
Paint
Color communicates style and a story. When choosing a space to repaint, there are a couple of important questions to ask yourself before going to the paint store.
- What is the natural lighting like? If there is a lot of natural light, the paint options are quite endless as the room will be bright in nature even if you choose a darker color. On the other hand, if there are no windows, consider a soft neutral color or white. This will make the space feel larger in appearance and not closed in.
- Is there a color in the home worth repeating in this space? Many times it is easy to feel pressure to choose a new color. However, if you have colors in your home that you like, consider using the same color in the space you are painting. Not only does give confidence that you’ll like it, but it also will portray consistency between various rooms in your home.
Hardware
Brushed nickel, copper, black rod iron… you name it, they sell it. There are myriads of options when it comes to hardware for your home. It can seem daunting to find a hardware that you like and that goes with your home’s style and cabinetry. However, updating hardware is a great way to update a space without doing anything extensive. Find both a knob and handle that are in the same finish and similar styles. Next, add the selection to your cabinetry throughout the home. You may also choose at this time to update the door knobs in the same finish on your doors and closets. Like we mentioned earlier, what better time than the cold months to complete a project that will update a cabinet in a matter of minutes?
Charming Character Upgrades
As we come alongside our clients, we always enjoy listening to their vision for a particular space or home. We love hearing how they want to transform a space to share their story through unique elements and character. Our final recommendation is to implement character into your home. This can be as simple as adding a new wooden accent or updating your stair spindles. It also could be more extensive such as adding an exposed wooden ceiling beam or taking out a wall. Here at SW Builders, we enjoy making our client’s vision a reality. Contact us here or call us at (616) 377-7433 if you are interested in learning more!
