You know in your heart to choose gratitude. You are certain that having a heart posture that shows thankfulness in the little things is healthy and right. However, choosing to always focus on what you’re thankful for can feel repetitive, lack heart, and be predictable. What if we were to tell you there is another way to frame your thinking that could change the game? The phrase we would like to share with you today is “I will choose to delight in”.
Choosing to Delight
When we take the focus off of what I am thankful for, to I delight in, we are able to zero in on the little blessings, habits, and situations of life instead of just a list of general appreciations. Choosing to intentionally delight in something is looking for the little glimmers, constant joys, and excitements that leave you wanting to search more.
For example, we go from the phrase…
“I am thankful for my house”
to
“I am delighting in my living room that I can enjoy the morning sunrise every day in”.
Do you see the difference? One is generic, the other is focused. One is obvious, the other is more focused. When we have this heart posture shift, it feels fresh, new, and exciting.
Let’s dig a little deeper.
Finding Ways to Delight Over Your Home
Here at SW Builders, we spend our livelihood building, renovating, and repairing homes. We understand it is one of your greatest assets, financially, but also relationally and personally. It is easy to see your home as ONE BIG PROJECT. And it may be. But we would like to encourage your heart posture to your home to change from focusing on the repairs, to enjoying each space more intentionally and verbally speaking about it.
This may be simply walking into a room like your kitchen, and using the phrase “I am delighting in making a yummy treat today in my kitchen” instead of looking at the dripping faucet or old, scratched laminate flooring.
Or how about…
“I am thankful for this small back deck to breathe fresh air daily,” instead of staring at the deckboards that desperately need restaining.
Do you see the difference? Same situation, mindset shift. This doesn’t mean to neglect projects or cleaning routines, but to shift your perspective in how you generally view your home and its structure.
Beyond Gratitude
Gratitude is a heart posture that is necessary. However, we hope that this unique shift encourages your heart to delight in the little moments a little more intentionally.
We have found this to be transformational, and honestly quite refreshing, making this small change. We hope you will try to choose to intentionally delight alongside us.
