Here at SW Builders, we understand that choosing the right renovation at the right time can be a difficult endeavor. When the list is long and the budget seems small, it can be hard to determine what renovation is the priority. In this blog post, we are here to give 3 important things to consider when it comes to determining how to choose the right renovation for you.
Is it damaged or a desire?
The first question that needs to be asked when considering which renovation to prioritize is: Is it damaged or a desire? If a renovation ever pops on your list because something is damaged or compromised (a leaky ceiling, structural issue, dangerous for a child), that project must take priority, for the safety of your family, as well as for proper care of your home. However, if the renovation appears to be purely desire-based, (painted kitchen cabinets, finish the basement, new countertops), there is some more wiggle room in which tasks can be completed first.
Is there a preferred order?
The second question that must be asked is: Is there a preferred order in which these renovations should take place? For example, if you are wanting to renovate your kitchen and pull out all flooring, chances are you will want to do the kitchen first so the new flooring wouldn’t be damaged when the kitchen is redone. Or if you want to finish your basement, but your main living space needs a carpeting job, you might want to wait for the carpet until the basement is finished. When you think about the order of these projects, you are more likely to end up with less hiccups or damage to a recent renovation.
Is there a preferred budget?
Finally, when it comes to choosing the right renovation, it’s important to know what is the optimal renovation to choose first based on your budget and finances. Have you been saving for a few years and want to start with the biggest project? Or would you like to start off small, with a project that doesn’t require a huge upfront cost?
Good luck!
