We all have a list of to-do’s when it comes to updates that our home needs. Oftentimes, this list can be daunting, especially if your home seems very outdated. Where do you begin? Well, we are here to give you some insight on how to practically decide what renovation to choose next when there seems to be a laundry list of them.
Step 1: Write A List
The first step in prioritizing your renovation list is to simply write down each renovation that comes to mind. Writing them down now will allow you to get the ideas out of your head and on to paper, which will aid in a clear headspace, but it will also help with practically seeing how many renovations you see as a priority now or coming up.
Step 2: Is it Damage or Desire?
This step is the least “fun” because it means acknowledging renovations that are needed to prevent or fix damage or if the renovation is out of desire for something new and fresh alone. This step is critical, because it allows you to be able to prioritize if the renovation is something that needs to be done soon to fix a problem, or if there is some flexibility in the timeline because the renovation is truly desire-based.
This doesn’t mean that a renovation that is truly out of desire alone for something new can’t be done. We love renovations that capture our customer’s dream! However, it’s always fun to dream of the new kitchen counters when the windows need replacing or the trim is damaged from the dog.
Step 3: Come Up with A Game Plan
Once you have a list of your needed renovations and labeled if they are needed because of damage or it is a desire, then it’s time to come up with a game plan. As mentioned above, categorizing the renovations by necessity helps give an idea on a timeline for the renovations to be completed based on budget, availability, and season.
